Why Does Weight Loss Plateau During the HCG Program?

Many patients experience a weight loss plateau during our HCG program. The most common reasons include:

  • Too little water
  • Not enough proteins
  • Increase in activity
  • Stress
  • Menstrual cycle for women
  • Cheating!

How to Overcome a Weight Loss Plateau

We suggest a “shake day” to break away from a weight loss plateau. Originally, physicians ordered “apple days,” but your body cannot function properly without enough protein. Drink a protein shake in the morning for breakfast and the same for lunch, followed by a normal low-calorie dinner, and you will soon start losing pounds again. A shake day includes a protein snack either in the middle of the afternoon or at night before bed. A protein snack consists of actual meat protein or 1 scoop of whey shake. You might have to complete a few shake days before you will break away from the plateau, but don’t give up! You will start losing again.

Staying Hydrated on HCG

Water is essential for everyone, regardless if you’re trying to lose weight or not! The body will not function properly without enough water and can’t metabolize stored fat efficiently. Most people need an average of 64 ounces of water each day, or half their body weight in ounces.

Incredible as it may seem, water is the most important catalyst for losing weight and keeping it off. Water naturally suppresses the appetite and helps metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake increases fat deposits, while an increase in water intake actually reduces fat deposits.

How Water Relieves the Kidneys

Why? The kidneys can’t function properly without enough water. When they don’t work to their full potential, some of their load is dumped on the liver. If the liver has to perform the kidneys’ work, it can’t operate optimally. As a result, it doesn’t metabolize as much fat, so more fat remains stored in the body, and weight loss plateaus.

Since overweight people have larger metabolic loads, they need more water than average-weight people. Water promotes muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also prevents sagging skin that usually follows weight loss. Shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy, and resilient.

Water can relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Results? Constipation. But when a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function usually returns.
